About the Shelter:

Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc. (DRU) is a nonprofit, charitable organization, whose purpose is to rescue abused, abandoned and unwanted Dobermans and place them in good, safe and loving homes. We also educate the public about Dobermans and responsible, humane animal care. Since its founding in 1988, DRU has provided rescue services for close to 3,000 dogs throughout the greater New England region and beyond. On average we usually have 30+ dogs in our care.

We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our rewarding and positive team. Qualified candidates must have a passion for training/handling dogs, strong work ethic, positive attitude, willing to learn, team player and excellent customer service skills.

Job Summary:

Doberman Rescue Unlimited (DRU) is looking to hire a part-time and full-time kennel technician for our shelter. This position will mostly consist with working with Doberman pinscher dogs at our Sandown NH facility. Please only apply if you have experience working with animals in the animal care field.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and organize entire shelter/ facility including cleaning and disinfecting shelter, kennels and floors, organizing facility equipment, and doing laundry.
  • Prepare food and feed dogs according to schedules and feeding instructions. Always provide clean drinking water to each dog.
  • Performs basic animal grooming duties, such as washing, brushing, and trimming nails.
  • Administering medications as indicated by our supervising veterinarian.
  • Walking dogs on leash around the DRU facility and on the land surrounding.

Skills and Experience:

  • Dog training experience is a plus
  • Vet or Veterinarian Technician or Vet Assistant experience is a plus
  • Business experience and technical skills are a plus
  • Passionate and comfortable handling/training dogs of all breeds or size
  • High level attention to detail with ability to carefully follow directions/instructions properly
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients and management
  • Ability to be flexible with schedule
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Handling experience preferred, but will train the right individual
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to meet the demands of a physically and mentally challenging job
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and remain standing for long periods of time as needed

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Dependable transportation
  • Frequently communicate orally and in writing with clients, employees, and management
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Consistently standing, walking, reaching, bending, crouching
  • Able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions outside

Education / Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
  • US work authorization (Required)
  • Dog handling: 1 year (Preferred)

Hours:

  • Part-time hours 16-30 hours a week, including weekends
  • Full-time hours 32-40 hours a week, including weekends
  • Open 7 days a week from 8:00am to 9:00pm
  • Flexibility is required
